Rory McIlroy getting out of trouble in the PGA Championship 2015
Tiger Woods tackling a tree in the final round of his last win in 2015 at the AT&T National
21st Jan 2016
No show, no rivalry, no fire the first salvo, no Woods vs McIlroy, only the Nike commercial. Both world No. 1 and 2 missed the cut, Tiger with an unfortunate 2 stroke penalty to cross over the cut line and Rory at the bottom of the pack experimenting with the new clubs, leaving the top of leaderboard to little known Jamie Donaldson.

Round 2 begins this Thursday at Abu Dhabi HSBC golf championship, round 2 of the rivalry between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Round 1 clearly went to Rory in 2015 if not by a knockout then on points. Not just talking about the Jinsha Lake showdown a couple of months ago in China but overall how the 2015 season went:-

Also McIlroy edging out Tiger here.
So how will the both of them fare in 2016? Well Tiger’s is on the comeback trail though losing steam towards the 2nd half of the season while Mac came scorching through the finish line with wins at the PGA, Deutsche, BMW, Ryder Cup and Dubai DP World Tour in November. Tiger’s last win was back in June at the AT&T National and a flat showing at the Ryder Cup.
So what has Tiger got going for him? At least, the name McIlroy doesn’t strike fear into other players sending them on the verge of nervous breakdown like he used to. McIlroy doesn’t have the make all within 6-feet pressure putt like he used to.
Also likely that Tiger won’t have the big fat contract (maybe not as big as before) he used to from Nike with what Nike needs to fork out to sign with McIlroy. Another point in Tiger’s favour, with Rory changing gear although we don’t know when or if he could use his old clubs but just paint the swoosh on it. (Tennis players used to do that)
Rory is starting to where red come Sundays (at least in the Majors if he is in contention? Like in the PGA), will we get to see two red shirts on the last day of the last group? This week shall set the pace.

Catch a bunker tip from pro-am golfer Huey Lewis (who? The lead singer from the 80’s band Huey Lewis & the News made famous by the movie Back to the Future. Ok forget it if you are born after the 80’s) Classic demonstration of the sand shot (from 17th Road Hole Bunker at St Andrews) without letting the club face touch the ball - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ErV9kdo5Sn8#!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Tiger played well at the CIMB classic but not matching the score of -21 in 1999.

He went on for an exhibition match with Rory McIlroy in China, losing by one. Both of them chose to skip the HSBC WGC in Mission Hills, China to the benefit of eventual winner Ian Poulter.
However back to the LPGA, while it is called the LPGA it looks more like the Korean Tour. Talk about the asian invasion, it just incredible how the Korean ladies has progressed so far so quick. (with thanks to Se Ri Pak) And it is not just golf but pretty much other stuff as well like Samsung(giving Apple a run for their money), Hyundai, Kia taking over from the Japanese. We almost forget to mention K-pop and Gangnam style.
Looks like Taiwan(& possibly China) will have a bunch of players coming off the heels of Yani Tseng soon.
Forget about the Solheim Cup (the ladies' equivalent to the Ryder Cup) where it is the USA vs Europe and have a new team competition where USA & Europe take on the Asian team (Inbee Park & Co. + Yani Tseng) and you will have a real match.
McIlroy pitch technique....(wait for the picture to fully load)

Upcoming events in Malaysia
Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia - 11th to 14th October, Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (tickets Thu/Fri RM23, Sat/Sun RM33, Season pass RM77)
CIMB Classic Malaysia - 25th to 28th October, The Mines Resort & Golf Club (tickets Thu/Fri RM90, Sat/Sun RM140, Season pass RM260)
See the ticket price difference between the events, this is more or less proportional to the total prize money up for grabs - US1.9mil for the ladies vs US6.1mil for the men. There have been calls to close the gap on the prize money between the men's and women's events (not just golf but also other sports). Well, the ticket prices suggests its not sex-discrimination but economics at play. More people (men & women) watch the men's event hence the premium on advertisers and sponsors, and higher the prize money.

Ryder Cup - From 10 6 to 13½ 14½ was just an incredible feat. Just as incredible, the second last match(Stricker vs Kaymer) was 1up to the Europeans and the last match(Woods vs Molinari) was 1up to the Americans going into the final 18th at even 13 13 .
If Stricker had been able to square the match (well he did his part - made the 8~10 feet par putt), certainly Tiger would had the chance to be the saviour of USA or would that be too much pressure for the now Tiger Woods. Even with the 1up lead, the previous invincible TW looks decidedly uncomfortable to shoulder the weight of the Ryder Cup. And the feeling is that the viewers feel it too, on one hand wanting to see greatness for one more time but at the same time knows he is human.
Nevermind Martin Kaymer spared the world No. 2 the burden by making an equally stunning 6 feet winning putt...you will never know had he missed, hence a rightful hero. Golf is remarkable that way...In the end 14 14 would had been a better score, a tie for USA and would have made people ask why Europe has won but Tiger missed his 3-footer. There has only been one tie in Ryder Cup history, does it matter?

The 10million dollar man? USD11.44mil to be exact, no super bionic strengths just Brandt Snedeker. Ridiculous prize money or is it just inflation...

Is McIlroy the new Tiger? Possibly he can maintain the kind of crazy level that Tiger did in his early days. Tiger is back but he just have to realize that he can't win day in day out like he used to - the peak may be over. The mini-peaks are not.

Ernie "Big Easy" Els takes the Claret Jug. Certainly Ernie had the smoothest full swing for most part of his career (recently the swing is more compact on the follow through) and the most number of near misses including the chance of a playoff in the first Masters that Phil won. Did Adam Scott really lose it? Yes and No. Yes, tough consecutive missed putts and No, some pressure from Ernie making the birdie on the 18th. Pressure and law of averages are part of any game no matter how good you are.

Ok, Tiger is not back. Well he was back midway through the US Open and everyone thought this was it, that he could keep it together. It was back to what we come to expect halfway through a major - Nobody could guess the winner other than the name Woods, the other names seemed random. But not time yet.
Rewind- Should have the golfing public and media cared about about the sex scandal? Isn't it personal? It doesn't have anything to do with golf, no?

Tiger is BACK!!! Tiger wins at Memorial with a "don't try this at home" chip shot on the 16th par-3. Dare we say other pro-golfers(amateurs alike) have similar miraculous chip-ins but not on a Sunday down the stretch within one of the lead.

The club face was not open, it was pointing backwards...
- Leave your comments, is he really back?
